About This Spot

Stepping into Salento feels like finding a spirited corner of Italy nestled within the ebb and flow of East London’s docklands. It’s the kind of place where the hum of conversation mingles effortlessly with the soft rhythms of background music, crafting an inviting atmosphere that’s both lively and unpretentious. Whether you pause for a quick coffee at the bar, unwind with friends over a slice of pizza, or browse the shelves of their gourmet deli, the pace is comfortably relaxed, encouraging moments of genuine connection.

Salento’s charm lies in its versatility—part Italian restaurant, part neighborhood staple—where the joys of authentic, well-crafted dishes are matched by the warmth of attentive, familiar service. The energy is upbeat but never rushed; it’s the soundscape of easy laughter, casual chatter, and the clinking of glasses that makes each visit feel like more than just a meal. Outside, a cozy garden space offers a breath of fresh air, perfect for lingering over a thoughtfully prepared plate or a creamy espresso.

Menus here gently remind you that Italian cooking is about soul and simplicity. Comforting layers of oven-baked lasagna, or a vibrant linguine with fresh seafood, reflect a home-style approach without sacrificing refinement. On any visit, there’s a quiet pleasure in discovering the balance of traditional and fresh ingredients—from the tang of a perfectly seasoned risotto to the melty stretch of mozzarella on a wood-fired pizza. For those with a sweet tooth, the homemade tiramisù or a rich chocolate brownie feel like the perfect little celebration to end your time here.

Salento fits effortlessly into the neighborhood fabric, serving not just food but a sense of place—where friends meet, stories unfold, and everyday moments are quietly savored with authenticity and ease.

We were told about this restaurant by Carla, the receptionist at the nearby Travelodge. She said she had heard good things about it but hadn't been in herself. She was not wrong, this place is fantastic. The staff were really friendly, the menu was excellent and the atmosphere was really great with a good level of background music, people chattering and general movement. We ordered 2 starters, one was spicy prawns, and the other was avocado and feta cheese salad. This was followed by a large meaty pizza and a good size calzone pizza. For dessert, we ordered the tiramisu, which was presented beautifully on the plate. It was lovely and moist, but I felt it should have had a little more of a coffee flavour to it. However, the food was excellent and add that to the staff and atmosphere, it was a lovely experience and worth every penny.

yesterday I went for a Pizza with my friend. The service was lovely. The girls were so attentive, kind and prompt in delivering the best service. The food offers good value. I go often since it's also located in a lovely place and I order home delivery too. highly recommended

Awesome. Lovely little restaurant with a cheery upbeat vibe. Nice inside and lovely outside space to either sit or lounge on the grass. Food was prompt, well cooked and tasty. Would definitely go out my way to eat here again

Pleasant surrounding area. We had good spaghetti carbonara and dull and tasteless lasagne. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. Place fells like British pub with Italian food.

Nice restaurant with great food and service. They have great tasting pizzas and pasta. All sorts of Italian food.

A very nice little Italian cafe, come diner, come bar. Has a great team of friendly staff working behind the bar or serving your table. There are a couple of beers on tap, a couple of decent wines and plenty of other alcoholic beverages from the top shelf to choose from. Happy hour is from 4-7pm with delicious pizza for £5. Worth a visit.

Went to have dinner there on a Friday night. We did not book but they gave us a table. At the beginning they gave us a table, but it was too cold there (as the table was next to a high AC) so we asked to change it and they accommodated us in the main room. I ordered Salmone alla pizzaiola and the lady kindly told me the name had nothing to do with the real "pizzaiola style". When it arrived I could notice that the salmon was a really small filet. It was too salty, I said it to the lady and she didn't offer me to change the plate, she just advice me that she would have told it to the chef. As a dessert I have affogato and it was really really good (however a loacker cookie in it had nothing to do). Overall, staff is kind and lovely, food is ok, nothing special.
